Tiled Roofing

The term “Tiling” now encompasses a vast selection of produces offering various profiles, textures and colours, covering clay; concrete; plastics and more recently steel!

The range offered by all the main manufacturers of concrete tiles is normally available “ex-stock” or within a few days. Clay tile delivery can vary slightly with most being readily available, with only a few hand-made items being on extended delivery.

The main categories of “tiling” are Plain and interlocking tiling and are generally formed from either clay or concrete.

Plain Tiling

Plain tiles are approximately 265 x165 mm wide and can be laid down to a pitch of 35deg. They are used extensively as vertical cladding with purpose made corners and patterned tiles usually available from most manufacturers.

Concrete plain tiles are available in a variety of surface textures and styles and generally have a double camber.

Clay plain tile finishes are generally smooth or sand faced with either single or double camber.

  • Average weight for clay plain tiles: 71kg/ m sq.

Interlocking Tiles

Sizes and profiles of interlocking tiles vary considerably between manufacturers along with the weights and performance statistics. Finishes generally are sand faced or smooth and are generally fixed with clips or nails to 50x25mm tanalised timber battens

  • Minimum pitch around 22.5 deg for concrete tiles. Weighing approximately 50 kg / m sq 
  • Minimum pitch around 17.5 deg  for Clay tiles. Weighing approximately 45 kg / m sq
