Built Up Felt Roofs
The three layer traditional, built-up felt roof using a rag-based reinforcement has now become obsolete other than on sheds or temporary structures. With modern reinforcement fabrics, such as polyester and the modified bitumen based compounds used in the high performance felts, the life expectancy has now improved considerably.
A recent project for EDF Energy at Bexleyheath involved IKO’s SafeStick self adhesive membrane, which has been developed with the knowledge and experience of the European IKO group of companies.
Ideal for areas where traditional hot application techniques are inappropriate, the SafeStick system has a key combination of a high tensile polyester base and SBS elastomeric bitumen coatings. This ensures that while installation is completed in a fire safe way, all the high performance benefits of a multi layer built up system are achieved.
The IKO SafeStick self adhesive system also features the IKO Graphite Firewall Technology in its cap sheets. This ensures complete compliance with the highest UK and European fire performance standards. Our SafeStick membranes can also be used as detailing or fire break materials on detailed work when using hot applied systems.
Some of the advantages of the IKO SafeStick membranes include:
- All European and UK fire performance standards met
- Incredible strength and durability
- No gas torches or hot bitumen required
- SBS elastomeric bitumen coating (low temperature flexibility up to 20C)
- Installed by an IKO approved contractor
- Self-adhesive application in temperatures as low as 0°C
